Cookies: what's saved, and how to undo it
This site keeps two small notes in your browser and loads a map from outside. Here's everything, no jargon.
The full story, in ten parts
The kinds of note we use
The site uses your browser's local storage, rather than traditional tracking cookies. Local storage belongs to your browser. It holds two short entries, and nothing is sent to us when you load a page.
What a cookie actually is
A cookie is a small note a website asks your browser to keep. Some are essential, some are handy and some follow you around the web. We don't use the third sort. What we use is simpler, and it stays in your browser, not on our side.
The default is off
Until you click the button on the notice, nothing optional is switched on. The notice appears once, your answer's remembered, and you can still read the site and send a booking whatever you decide.
Measurement tags
There's a placeholder for a basic visit counter, but it's switched off and loads nothing. If it ever goes live, it'll start only after you've said yes, and this page will be updated first to say what it counts.
The map embed
The map on the Getting to us page comes from Google and loads as soon as the page opens, before you've made a choice. Google may set cookies of its own when it does. If you'd rather avoid them, skip the map and use the address in text.
The cookie table
- ok18-2621d3: local storage, remembers that you confirmed you're 18 or over, kept until you clear your browser data.
- 24460e_cc: local storage, remembers your answer to the cookie notice, kept until you clear your browser data.
- Counter tag: not set, a disabled placeholder that would start only after you agree.
- Google map: third party, may set its own cookies when the contact page opens, for as long as Google decides.
What's never stored
No names, email addresses, booking details or payment information are kept in your browser by this site. The forms send their message once, when you press the button, and your browser forgets it when you leave the page.
How to change your mind
Clear this site's data in your browser settings. The age notice and the cookie notice will both come back next time, and you can answer them differently. Nobody at the Lounge will know what you picked.
If you block cookies
Blocking cookies or local storage in your browser won't stop the site working. The only difference is that the age notice and the cookie notice may come back each time you visit, because there'd be nowhere to remember your answers. Bookings and messages still work exactly the same way.
How long things last
The two notes stay put until you wipe them or your browser does. There's no timer on them. The map's cookies follow Google's own rules, which it publishes on its own site.
