Who can come into the long room?
Anyone aged 18 or over with photo ID. The dining room's open to everyone.
Eighteen and over, no exceptions
The casino room is for adults, full stop. We check a photo ID at the old ticket booth on every visit, even if we know your face and your mum's, and that applies to everyone from regulars to the founder's uncle. It takes a few seconds, and it keeps the long room the calm place it's meant to be.
There's no way to play anything here from a screen. The tables exist only in the building, and that means your age is checked by a person, face to face. We think that's a better system than any online form, and so far nobody's argued.
We're not trying to be difficult. A calm room needs a clear rule, and a clear rule only works when it's the same for everyone. Regulars say they like the check, because it means they know exactly who they're sitting next to. Nobody takes offence, and several have asked us to check them twice.
Dinner's different. Kids are very welcome in the dining terrace at any hour, and we'll happily do a smaller plate of pie, soup or fish. They just can't go up the slope to the tables.

Questions we get at the booth
What counts as ID?
A photo card showing your date of birth: a driver licence, a passport or a proof of age card. A photo of a card on your phone doesn't count, but a laminated original does.
What if I've left my ID at home?
Then you're very welcome at dinner, and you can try again another night. We can't make exceptions, however friendly the conversation or however old you look.
Do you copy my ID?
No. The host looks at it, hands it back and that's the end of it. Nothing's scanned, copied or recorded, and nothing's kept.
Can my 17-year-old watch from the rail?
Sorry, no. The rule covers watching as well as playing. The dining terrace is open to them, and Glenn will do them the best pie on the board.
Is the notice on this site the real check?
No, it's just a courtesy to ask. The proper check is at the booth, in person, every visit.
Quick check before you come in
The casino room, and this website, are for people who are 18 or over. Are you?
Everything's played on chips with no money value, in person only. Nothing's played online.
